Neuropsychological Evaluations:
A neuropsychological evaluation assesses how one’s brain functions, and yields information about the structural and functional integrity of the brain. Neuropsychological testing allows for a detailed assessment of an individual’s cognitive and emotional functioning to help characterize cognitive deficits, identify strengths and weaknesses, clarify diagnosis, and develop treatment recommendations for patients with neurological dysfunction due to trauma, brain tumors, disease such as Alzheimer’s, or psychiatric conditions. A neuropsychological evaluation uses standardized assessment tools and techniques to assess the different cognitive domains including attention, verbal and visual learning and memory, language, visuospatial, visuomotor, executive functioning, as well as emotional functioning in order to determine whether cognitive decline has occurred, differentiate neurologic from psychiatric conditions, identify neurocognitive etiologies, and to determine the relationship between neurologic factors and difficulties in daily functioning.
A Neuropsychological Evaluation may be indicated to clarify issues relating to:
- Traumatic Brain Injury or Concussion
- Mild Cognitive Impairment
- Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
- Cerebrovascular Accident
- Epilepsy
- Muscular Sclerosis
- Cognitive Symptoms Associated with Other Neurological/Medical Conditions
- Pre- and Post-Surgical Functioning
